Art on the Square Gallery is delighted to welcome Lauren DaRe to our family of artists in the heart of historic downtown Summerville.
A lifelong Summerville resident and recent Bachelor of Fine Arts graduate from Lander University, Lauren is quickly establishing herself as one of the area's exciting emerging impressionist painters.
Transforming through Color, Movement, and Emotion
What makes Lauren's work so captivating isn't simply what she paints—it's how she transforms ordinary moments into lasting memories through color, movement, and emotion.
Whether depicting friends gathered around a dinner table, the glow of city lights after rain, or the relaxed personality of the coast, Lauren isn't interested in creating a photographic record. Instead, she paints the feeling of being there.
Bold brushstrokes, vibrant color, and expressive movement invite viewers to step into the scene and experience it for themselves.
"I want people to feel like they are in the painting," Lauren says. "I want them to imagine themselves in it."
"I never know what the end piece will look like," she explains. "I want the piece to be a painting, not a picture.”
Artistic Journey
Lauren's artistic journey began early. Growing up in Summerville, she attended Rollings Middle School for the Arts, continued her studies in AP Art at Pinewood Preparatory High School, and earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Lander University in 2025.
Along the way, influential mentors—including high school art teacher Kevin Morrissey and Professor Elizabeth Snipes—helped shape both her artistic voice and technical foundation.
Rooted in Memories
Lauren’s paintings begin not with sketches or rigid plans, but with memories.
A conversation with friends. A favorite photograph. A quiet afternoon at the beach. A fleeting moment she wants to experience again.
Lauren allows those memories to guide each painting naturally, never knowing exactly where the work will lead. Every piece develops through experimentation, layering expressive marks and color until something unexpected emerges.
Impressionistic Brushwork
That philosophy is evident throughout her work. Rather than focusing on precise details, Lauren captures rhythm, movement, and the exchange of energy between people and places. Her loose, impressionistic brushwork allows viewers to bring their own memories into each painting, creating a personal connection that extends beyond the canvas.
Sources of Inspiration
Outside the studio, Lauren balances her creative life by working at Fleet Feet while training for half marathons. Running, spending time with friends, and simply observing everyday life all become sources of inspiration. Even creative blocks are met with movement—a walk, a run, or time spent with people she loves often leads to fresh ideas.
Lauren is equally passionate about being part of the local arts community. She hopes Art on the Square Gallery will continue to be a welcoming place where artists share their stories, inspire others, and encourage new creatives to discover their own artistic voice.
For Collectors
As Lauren begins this exciting chapter at Art on the Square Gallery, her work offers collectors something truly special: paintings that celebrate not just the beauty of a place, but the emotions, relationships, and memories that make those moments unforgettable.
