ART on the Square Gallery

Associate Artist

Detta Cutting Zimmerman

Bernadette “Detta” Cutting Zimmerman
August 20, 1945 – July 27, 2014

Detta graduated from Omaha Commercial Art School. She worked as a commercial artist for a couple of years and joined art clubs in Omaha. She participated in many art shows and also studied life drawing for six years.

At age thirty-four, Detta decided to go back to college and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. When she moved to the Charleston area in 1983, she enrolled in several classes in Art and Art History at the College of Charleston. Meanwhile, Detta created many pen and ink house portrait drawings for patrons across the USA.

Detta’s work became easy going but balanced. It has a feeling of being there in a momentary flash of sight. She always had a deep interest in art history and the artist’s placement in the scheme of things. Detta received many awards over the years, and was a dear friend to many artists.

Her work will continue to be represented by her husband, Delbert as long as it is available.
